History in the making

Here is What the Judge Ate for Breakfast's coverage of the historic panel held in Wichita this week. As Ron Sylvester notes, this is the first time that three women (who are regular members of the court) have sat on a panel together.

Carl was before this panel, but he was not the one who called a judge "Ma'am."

A bit of trivia, just because I was curious and looked it up...

There have been a total of six female judges on the COA--Briscoe, Royse, Marquardt, Beier, Caplinger and Standridge. This is not the first time there have been three on the court at once though--Marquardt, Beier, and Caplinger were all on from October 2001 (when Judge Caplinger was sworn-in) until September 2003 (when Justice Beier moved to the third floor).

I can't find a similar list for the Supreme Court, but I think McFarland was the first, so someone who has been around longer than me could probably figure it out.

Actually, according to the Court's website, Judge Caplinger was appointed in October 2004, so she just missed then Judge Beier's tenure on the Court of Appeals.

I did not mention it at argument, but I was honored to be a part of this historic docket.
